Blue Mountain to Host 2008 Council Cup Race

This year’s EPSC Council Cup Race will be held at Blue Mountain Ski Area on Sunday, February 24, 2008. The same basic format will be followed as in past years. Start getting your teams together because Race Day is almost here.

The race will start at 10:00 AM. Teams must be registered by 9:15 am when registration closes.   Breakfast and lunch will be served at 8:00 am and 12:00 noon. Purchase your lift tickets at the EPSC table the day of the race. Ticket prices will be determined as soon as possible. Keep checking the webpage for updates as they happen. The ticket price will include your lift ticket, the race, breakfast, lunch and the Awards party.

This year as previously, a separate race for snowboarders will be held.  The separate race for snowboarders will consist of teams just like the ski teams.  Medals will be awarded and if we get enough interest with several teams, a trophy will be purchased like the ski trophies.

To join us on race day, show up at Blue Mountain in time to fill out all release forms and sheets with team members listed, register by 9:15 and purchase your lift ticket. All races must be present at the time of registration because no substitutions can be made once a team is registered. The race will be conducted by the Blue Mt. Race Staff and they will start at the top of Raceway at 10:00 sharp.

Please remember to purchase your lift ticket through EPSC as it helps to defray the cost of the day’s events. You will get the best value from our lift ticket for that day.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Maddi Dondore, Alpine committee member, at 610.926.3805, 610.223.6494, mdskis123@epix.net or pinnacle.maddi@comcast.net .

The council cup Race on Feb. 24th at Blue Mountain Ski Area will have a race ticket price of $47.00. That will include the lift ticket for the day, breakfast, lunch, snacks and beverages during the Awards Party. Door prizes will also be awarded. If you have a season pass or lift ticket for the day, to participate in the race you will need to purchase a ticket for $10.00. Buckman’s Ski Shop and Pinnacle Sports are donating race bibs for the event.

If there is any club or participant that would like to prepay for the lift ticket and/or the race, you can make checks payable to EPSC with a memo for the race and mail the checks to:

Maddi Dondore    1032 Ithica St., Reading, PA 19605

Please send them prior to Feb. 19th to ensure I have them in time. This is not mandatory only an option.

If you pre-register, please put a copy of the rules on the back of the EPSC release form when you print it.

SKI COUNCIL CUP RACE

2008 RACE RULES

1.     All racers must be 21 or older.

2.     Master racers must be 50 and older.

     3.     This is a TEAM event.  A team consists of 6 people; two women and four men make up a valid team.

     4.     Lift tickets (TBA) or race registration fees (TBA) must be paid in order for an individual to be registered on a team.

     5.     Each ski club must choose a team captain. Only the team captain can approach the team registration table to register the club’s team.

     6.     The team captain will collect the registration packet consisting of the team registration form (team captain to fill in ski club name, names of racers, and age), six wavers for Blue Mountain , six waivers from EPSC, and a rule sheet. The registration form and all waivers must be returned to the registration table, complete and legible, or they will not be accepted and the bib spots will not be assigned.

     7.     The first two bib spots on each team must be assigned to women, the next four spots must be assigned to men.

     8.     Once the forms are properly completed and returned to the registration table by the team captain, the bibs will be distributed to the team captain.

     9.     The race begins at 11:00 AM , with the first team of racers (bibs 1-6) at the start of the blue gates, and the second team (bibs 7-12) at the start of the red gates.   They will be followed by the third team (bibs 13-18) at the blue gates, and the fourth team (bibs 19-24) at the red gates.  Racers will be called to the start gate. Racing will continue in this manner until each team has completed their first run.  After each team has completed their first run, the race starts over again with the last two teams skiing first, at the opposite colored gate of their first run.

    10.      A team score for each race is made up of the best female time and the three best male times on that particular course.  Each racer must ski once on the red course and once on the blue course.  The score of each course (red and blue) will be combined to get the final score of each team.  Three males and one female, minimally, must finish each course in order for your team to qualify.  If this minimum is not met, your team will be DSQ. If any racer Does Not Finish the race, they will get a DNF as a time.

    11.     At the start gate, the gatekeeper will have a spreadsheet and announce the racers for each course.  Make sure your racer is wearing the correct bib number.

     12.      After the last race, the team captain can get a copy of the race result to hand out for your team’s viewing.

    13.     The A-Cup will be awarded to the team with the best time. The B-Cup will be awarded to the six-place team.

    14.    Snowboard Teams will also be welcome.
