Host Clubs Needed

The By-laws of Council state that council will hold three general meetings a year. Dinner Meetings have been traditionally scheduled for the fall (late September), winter (early to mid-January), and spring (May). Member clubs have taken on the responsibility of organizing these dinner meetings. Getting a club to volunteer to run the meeting has not been a problem until recently. It has fallen to Council too often in the past several years to organize these meetings. We need clubs to come forward and take on this responsibility.

On a rotating basis, with a current affiliated club membership of 43, a club would only have to be a host every 14 years. That really does not seem to be a huge commitment for any club. So, sign up early for the meeting of your choice and satisfy your obligation to run a dinner meeting before someone else snatches
away your preferred dates.

The spring 2005 general membership meeting will be here before we know it. Call today and volunteer as a host club. You will be sent an outline of what you will need to do to run the meeting. Mailing labels for the invitations are supplied by council. You would need to find a place to have the meeting and choose the menu. You would need to find four or five sponsors for the cocktail hour. If you wanted to include door prizes or raffle items, you would need to solicit these things. You would need to take reservation and collect the payments. Once you start the process you will find it goes quite easily, and members of the council board will be available to help.

Raise your hand to volunteer by calling Fred Carpentier, 610-647-2372 with your dates.

Lists to Serve You

If you have been on the EPSC web site lately you might have noticed the invitations to sign up for the two Council List-Serves. Both List-serves are open to all current members of any EPSC club. The purpose being to open up the communication lines between council and the clubs and their members.

All we need is to have you, the membership, join either or both list serves. As mentioned, these communication vehicles are only for current members. Therefore, when you sign up, you need to include your name and the name of your affiliated club with your request. Since your email address is not always associated with your true identity or your ski club, it makes it rather difficult to verify membership status with only an email address. For example, how many of you can tell us the identity of ouiski2lmh @aol.com? The reason for this screening of membership is that council wants this to be a true method of communication for club and council business between the membership. We do not want this to be a vehicle for unwanted SPAM.

Council List Serve

This list serve is for the dissemination of information. Council will be using this list-serve for Hot Line announcements, reminders of EPSC scheduled events, and other communiqué of interest to the membership. Clubs can use the list-serve to invite other EPSC clubs to special events they are sponsoring, ask for feed back from other clubs on certain topics of interest, or the sharing of information that would be considered of interest to the council club’s members. The use of this type of information exchange is endless. To make it work all we need to do is use it with discretion and for the purpose that it is intended.

The sign-up form for this list service is found in the upper right hand corner of Councils web site home page. There is a fill in block for your email address. Under that block is a message explaining that only members of EPSC clubs should subscribe. It also asks that you include your name and ski club in the reply to the yahoo list service message. Fill in your email address and click the Join Now box. This will bring you to a screen that states that a confirmation message was sent to the email address you submitted and to reply to confirm your subscription to the group. You need to reply to this message and this is where you submit your name and ski club informaiton for membership verificataion.

Who should join this list-serve? All council board members. All club officers and committee chairpersons. Any member of any EPSC affiliated club who would like to know more about the workings of these organizations.

The list-serve comittiee needs help to verify the memberships for list-serve requests. If you would be interested in helping the comittee approve subscribers for these programs please contact Lydia Hill at lydiah@apparelbusiness.com .
